The relatively brand-new arts center was completed on a huge site of 99,783 square meter with the fund of approximately one hundred and twenty million USD in 2001, by the Jeollabuk-do Provincial Government. This project was initiated to fulfill the aim of promoting the arts and culture in a balanced way, in line with the decentralization trend in Korea. Sori in Korean represents all sounds, natural and artificial, or vocal and instrumental. So, Sori evokes a unique feeling of intimacy, warmth and artistry to the Korean people, and it is the traditional name of a genre of Korean narrative song which has prevailed in this southwestern part of Korean Peninsula for a long time. Therefore, Sori Arts Center embodies the spirit of the arts and culture of Korea which boasts a brilliant cultural heritage.
